Moonraker Loft

A renovation of a sun-soaked full-floor loft in an iconic Richard Meier–designed building on Manhattan’s West Side, the Moonraker Loft explores the interplay between machine technology and the ambient environment.

The loft is organized around a series of meticulously fabricated elements in mirror-polished stainless steel, lacquered millwork, and lime plaster. Each material carries a distinct environmental quality—reflectivity, camouflage, or glow—that playfully engages and amplifies the extraordinary setting, a glass-walled space suspended between the Hudson River and the sky.

The apartment was reconfigured to support both large-scale entertaining and film screenings as well as more intimate gatherings and daily living. Integrated systems for display, storage, multimedia, and technology are carefully embedded to preserve openness while enabling flexibility of use.

At the center of the renovation is a transforming wet bar, concealed within ribbed lacquer panels. Suspended from the structure above, it emerges silently and without resistance: a rotating bottle rack in mirror-polished stainless steel that wraps an existing concrete column. This intervention creates a cinematic moment of drama while establishing a new social and functional heart within the loft.
