Featured in the June 2019 issue of ARCHITECT, the journal of the American Institute of Architects, the Children’s Library at Concourse House was designed with extreme sensitivity to scale. Elements of the library were designed to be friendly and as welcoming as possible to children living at Concourse House, a shelter for families transitioning out of homelessness. Grandeur was jettisoned in favor of relatability. As we noted, “We calibrated the scale so the elements are big, but kind of cuddly. Even though it’s a single space, we were trying to create little pockets of intimacy.”
