“Cities are increasingly overcrowded and expensive, our lives are becoming more nomadic and solitary and the circumstances of our employment are ever more precarious and mobile. In North America 80 per cent of the population live in cities, and forecasts suggest there will be a 66 per cent increase in the urbanization of the world’s population by 2050. Architects are moving with the times and designing for smaller and smaller living spaces whose interiors demand flexibility and adaptability. And yet such restrictions can also be a stimulus for design. Indeed in recent years there has been an exponential rise in the number of clever solutions in which potentially claustrophobic micro-architecture are transformed into apartments that can be used in various ways at different times of the day. “
